SAE Fatigue Design and Evaluation Committee

Road Load Data Division

Detroit, Mi (3-4 April 2001)

 

Tuesday, April 3 - Divisional Progress Meeting

  1. Christoph Leser moderated the meeting.
  2. Minutes from the previous meeting were approved.
  3. Mark early reported that all data acquisition and preliminary checking/transformation activities are complete.
  4. No progress on data reduction activities was reported.
  5. ASCII data for web page – No progress was reported on the common format for data presentation in ASCII format.
  6. Christoph Leser reported on the activities of the SAE Fatigue Committee in Japan. The group there will embark shortly on a road load data acquisition activities for a "generic" vehicle. They expect to collect spindle loads with a wheel force transducer and use this as a "standard load sequence" for further fatigue studies of vehicles of comparable size. They will keep this committee informed of their progress and are requesting support from this committee in the form of advise on approach and methodology.
  7. Jodi Sommerfeld of MTS Systems Corporation gave a presentation entitled: "Effects of Varying End Constraints Observed in Finite Element Analysis and Empirical Analysis of a Transducer"
  8. Christoph Leser of MTS Systems Corporation gave a presentation entitled: "Update on Empirical Dynamics Modeling Activities of the ATV Shock Absorber"

Wednesday, April 4 - Divisional Planning Meeting

Paul Lubinski chaired the meeting (substituting for Christoph Leser)

Prior to the RLDA planning session a group discussion for the ATV related activities was held. The ATV group will refocus its activities under the leadership of Ric Mousseau. The RLDA group will continue to support the ATV activities.

Data Reduction - No further discussion was held. The RLDA chairperson will stay in touch with the ATV chairperson to see what the ongoing needs of this group are w.r.t. this issue.

ASCII data format - No further input was given, it was agreed to close this activity.

New activities - no proposals for new activities were made.

Goals/objectives - SAE is requesting input from all the chairpersons of the SAE FD&E committee defining the goals and objectives of the respective sub committees. This will aid SAE in deciding whether the SAE FD&E committee should stay as a "standards generating committee" or become an "event" type committee (where event relates to seminar/training or similar type of event). No input was given by the group on goals and objectives.
