SAE-RLDA Division Progress Meeting
SAE Fatigue Design and Evaluation Committee Meeting Road Load Data Division Unconfirmed Minutes West Lafayette, IN (October 18-20, 1999)
Tuesday, October 19 - Divisional Progress Meeting
Wednesday, October 20 Divisional Planning Meeting Christoph Leser chaired the meeting. Rainflow standard No new progress was reported. The group is waiting on some input from Mark Pompetski. Time history format - The group has elected to not pursue a standard format for time histories. There are various formats used commercially with reasonable acceptance in the industry. Also, there are many existing translators available to convert one format to another. ASCII data for web page A common format for sequential data is needed to allow web page fatigue calculations. Andrew Whelan will investigate and provide a proposed format. Statistical analysis of data The group continues to have a major interest in how time history data is validated and correlated. Christoph will work on arranging speakers to discuss this issue at the next meeting. ATV Contributions: The Road Load Data Acquisition committee suggested collecting data that will be useful for the future investigations in the ATV study. No clear "request" for such data came was made. A discussion about collecting load histories from other applications (besides the plywood course) was conducted. This could include ski slopes and trails in woods. There appears to be more interest at this time in collecting loads from various applications. Gary Mauritzon will generate a draft proposal what suitable next steps could be and circulate them among key members prior to te next meeting. (This same issue was discussed at Fall 1998 meeting with the recommendation not to collect additional load histories at that time. It was felt that the effort of the group should concentrate on correlation the existing loads to digital models, not in trying to understand the customer use of an ATV.) New Business: The Road Load Data group will work with the Component Test group in collecting the loads they feel are needed. The meeting was adjourned. Minutes submitted by Ray Thompson
