Summary SAE FD&E Conference Call 2/16/06

1) Projects

Welds

John gave an update; he is in discussion with Ralph Stephens and Dan Lingenfelser on characterizing welded tubes. There is a plan of doing some testing at the University of Iowa (Ralph Stephens). John is also in contact with Hari Agrawal, Ali Saeedy and Helmut Dannbauer on their contributions and presentations at SAE Congress.

Bolts

Darryl Taylor, DCX, did not participate in the call. Christoph will discuss off line status of the bolt initiative and what if anything, will be presented at the SAE Congress meeting in April 2006.

 2) Future Meetings

Content/format

Sp 06 Cobo Hall

There will be an executive meeting at Holiday Inn Express , 1020 Washington Blvd., Detroit, Michigan 48226, on Monday, 4/3/06 from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm. No food or drinks will be served.

 

Tuesday all day and Wednesday morning will be filled with talks, John, Chin Chan and Russ are organizing this.

 

Wednesday afternoon is reserved for general FD&E business, including the Fuchs award and updates on projects. Dan Morrow will host this session (Christoph will not take part in this meeting).

 

We (Dan morrow, John and Christoph) will talk on 3/1/06 , 10:00 am EST about the details of the agenda for Wednesday afternoon.

 

Christoph will be sending out an email shortly with a reminder to book hotels (can be done now until 3/13/06 via www.fatigue.org) and a list of presentations.

 Fa 06 Oakland University , Detroit

Typical meeting format, we expect the host, Professor Sayed Nassar, to organize a tech session. Christoph and Dan will discuss this with Sayed.

We will also be asking the G11 committee to send a representative to give us an update on their activities.

 

3) Liaisons:

ASTM E08:
They have an initiative on residual stress, Christoph is involved and will update FD&E members on this. Dan Lingenfelser will be the liaison person for all general business. Their outgoing chairman, Mike Mitchel, stated there is interest for joint activities.

 

SAE Brazil :
A request has been filed to stay closer in touch, Dan Morrow will be the liaison.

 

SAE Japan :

Christoph will be the liaison to saty in touch with them Dan Lingenfelser suggested to get in touch with Ms Koyoke (sp?).

 

G11:
They are now called “SAE Reliability Applications Committee” and is part of the same group as FD&E, i.e. the Materials, Parts and Processes council, and are a "sister" committee to us. We will stay on close contact with them and update each other on activities. Dan Lingenfelser will be the liaison person

 

4) Website

It was decided that Chin Chan assumes the role as web police, to monitor the site for general completeness and accuracy.

Project owners will still be responsible for their sections content.

 

5) Other items

No other business was brought up.

 

6) Conference Calls

We expect to have such conference calls 2-3 times per year, next time with a web eetin and voice conference call.
