     W. Spigler moved the Minutes be approved as submitted.

SAE J445 Metallic Shot and Grit Mechanical Testing - C. Barrett

     The Proposed Revision was balloted by the Executive
      Committee of FD & E:
          9 - Approvals  0 - Disapprovals   2 - Waives   4 - No
Reply

     A comment by A. Conle on Executive Committee Ballot to
include reference to C. Carlin     studies was discussed at
length.  The committee felt the current draft alerts any user to
both positive and negative attributes of various testing methods
described in SAE J445.

     D. Sharer moved to accept SAE J445 as submitted without
change.

          W. Spigler - Second.
           Motion Carried.


SAE J827 High Carbon Cast Steel Shot - D. Hale

     Current ballot results:
           12 - Approvals   6 - Disapprovals   0 - Waives

     D. Hale reported the 3 of the Disapprovals had been
resolved, 2 persons voting for          disapproval had not
responded to efforts to resolve their disapprovals.  Disapproval
comments  by M. Schieman were discussed at length.

     D. Hale moved that the proposed revision of SAE J827 be
forwarded on to FD&E     Executive Committee for ballot along
with the unresolved disapproval by C. Carlin.

SAE J1993 High Carbon Cast Steel Grit - D. Hale

     Current ballot results:
          12 - Approvals   3 - Disapprovals   12 - No Replies

     D. Hale reported that disapprovals by W. Spigler and R.
Fuller had been resolved. The      disapproval by C. Carlin had
not been resolved.



     D. Hale moved that the proposed revision of SAE J1993 be
forwarded on the FD&E    Executive Committee for ballot along
with the unresolved disapproval by C. Carlin.

SAE J443 Procedure for using Standard Test Strip - J. Champaigne

     B. Gillespie discussed the status of the proposed draft
revision of SAE J443.

     D. Denyer moved that the proposed draft revision of SAE J443
be accepted and sent out      for ballot by the Surface
Enhancement Committee.

          D. Sharer - Second.
          Motion Carried.

SAE J2227 Shot Peening Coverage - C. Barrett

     C. Barrett discussed the status of the development of SAE
J2227.  Copies of the partially    finished document were
distributed to interested persons.  C. Barrett asked that anyone
with additional comments, return their comments to him by
November 30, 1995.


SAE J1830 Ceramic Beads for Peening - G. Fernandez

     G. Frenandez discussed the recommended revision of SAE
J1830.

     D. Hale moved to that the proposed revision be accepted and
sent to the Surface      Enhancement Committee for ballot.

          W. Spigler - Second.
          Motion Carried.

SAE J1173 Glass Beads for Peening - B. Mulhall

     C. Barrett reported that the subcommittee was unable to meet
and had no progress to   report.  A meeting has been scheduled
for early December 1995.


SAE J792 Blast Cleaning Manual - D. Lutsko

     C. Barrett reported that the 1st draft of the proposed
revision to SAE J792 has been      completed and will be
distributed to the Surface Enhancement Committee for review and
comment.  D. Hale suggested to ask the Wheelabrator Corporation
to donate more recent    photos of wheel peening equipment.


SAE J784a Stress Measurements - A. Ahmad

     C. Barrett reported that the SAE J784a subcommittee is
scheduled to meet November 17      and hopes to have a draft
revision to submit to the Surface Enhancement Committee after
this meeting.

Yttria Zirconia Ceramic Beads for Peening - J. Thomas

     J. Thomas discussed the proposed draft of this document.

     D. Hale moved that the revised draft of this document be
submitted to the Surface      Enhancement Committee for review
and comment.

          W. Spigler - Second.
          Motion Carried.


Medium Carbon Wrought Steel Grit - S. Kaufman

     D. Denyer discussed the proposed draft of this document.  He
will discuss the revisions    proposed during the meeting with
Mr. Kaufman and C. Barrett.

Low Alloy Wrought Steel Grit - S. Kaufman

     D. Denyer discussed the proposed draft of this document.  He
will discuss the revisions    proposed during the meeting with
Mr. Kaufman and C. Barrett.

Borosilicate Glass Beads for Peening - R. Sayer

     No report was available at this time.


NEW BUSINESS:

SAE J442 - D. Hale pointed out that the flatness requirements in
Figure 1 of this specification     should be clarified.  C.
Barrett will check to see if this can be done as an editorial
correction.

Military adaptation of Non-Government Standards - D. Hale

     D. Hale reported that he had sent SAE a letter on 7/31/95
suggesting MIL specifications      that could be replaced with
existing SAE documents.  SAE has a person working on this
project and is in the process of collecting input from various
committees and will      summarize and circulate the input at a
later date.

Hope Products - P. Trotta introduced his company who has decided
that they will manufacture    Almen Strips and asked for
suggestions regarding testing and verification of their product.
